There are a lot of really amazing reggae artists out today that have really pushed the boundaries of the what we all know to be reggae music. It seems as if the genre is evolving and being hybridized with other genres more than ever before, especially with the heavy push of electronic music in recent years. Many reggae artists often go unnoticed or unrecognized and fight for their name to be heard amongst musicians of other genres. Here is a list of 3 bands/groups that consider reggae music to be an essential part of their musical repertoire and are constantly doing something new and refreshing within the genre.
First up is Massachusetts-born, California-based group @StickFigureDub. Stick Figure is a showcase of the many musical talents of Scott Woodruff, a one man band, who is enormously talented and single handedly created all 4 of Stick Figure’s albums. Each album is definitely worth your time and are modern reggae classics. Second track is by Savannah, GA based band @Passafire, whose album Vines was just released yesterday. Lastly is the Vermont-based quartet Twiddle whose jam-based influences encompass all genres from funk to jazz to reggae.
